1970 and 1971 Camaro Z/28

I just purchased a 1971 Camaro Z/28 that was built with the 792 - Black with Saddle Accents interior and I would like to make an interior change.

I am not a true fan of the original high back bucket seats in a 71 Camaro. I have a set of low back 70 Camaro seats that I am thinking of switching out.

In order to recover my 70 Camaro seats in the same material as the current 792 interior and to maintain a nice original look to the interior, where should I go to get the correct covers to ensure uniformity in the interior? When I am finished, I want it to look like I never touched the seats. I am having trouble finding the correct 792 covers from most of the Camaro parts suppliers.

Where do I need to go to find the covers?

Not sure where to get what you're asking for, but that interior is beautiful. Any more pics of the car? Would love to see some, thanks.

I never was a fan either of the 71 and up seats. But if it was my car , I don't think I would change a thing. Looks really nice, would love to see more pics of the car.

I wouldn't change the interior at all, leave it the way it came from the factory, like or not... You just take away the originality of a nice car.

When I had my upholstery done, I had a shop match the material samples from SMS. For me, it was actually cheaper to have my seats done by a reputable upholstery shop versus buying seat covers and doing it myself. I'm sure they could do either color. That said, with only 4862 71 Z28's produced, You could bet this color interior was not as common as black. I'd think twice before I would change it.

X-2 It's only Original once. I am not a fan of tan interior, but your interior looks Mint. It must be a very low mileage car. You have to ask yourself, "What Would The Judges Say?" It's your car and you should do what you want. JMHO

'71-up Camaro seats are a lot more comfortable than earlier low-back seats. Swapping to the early seats would be a step in the wrong direction for a car that gets driven (IMO).

Your best bet would be to also find a back seat so you could cover the front and back with the same material and they would match. Put the originals in storage for the future. I like the 71 and later seats but the foam is to soft, that is what I would change in my 71 Camaro.
Your interior looks great.

I am a LEGENDARY interiors dealer and can supply the best reproduction interior
for any Camaro........

1971 792 Interior was Black with Saddle Accents, Custom Cloth

I could ask LEGENDARY if they will make you 1970 Front seat covers
from their 1971 792 material.......At this point I dont know if
they have the material or would buy from SMS and then mfg the covers ???

The pics below dont "look" like 792 with Bks/cc....Please explain the above pics
After a closer look at a rare 792 are there BLACK threads "Accents"
amongst the mostly Saddle Cloth Material ????

I'm also interested to research if the CARPETED HUMP (between rear seats)
is correct?? ....As I'm thinking it should be a Saddle VINYL material....
Do you know if this interior is the born with interior or has interior been restored ???
