69 Z28 clock

I'm looking to buy a 69 Z28 and have a question in regards to the clock.

If the car has the console and gauge package, does it include the clock as well, or was that a separate option?

I've been searching and can't find definite info, most all of the cars I see for sale have the console and gauges, some have a clock, and from what I see on the web, if you have the console and gauge package, you get the clock, however a lot of the cars available do not have a clock. Personally I want to buy one with no console, however finding one has been slim. Thanks. :flag:

My Oshawa documentation shows my 69 ss was ordered with a clock and console with separate rpo codes.( No gauges were ordered ).

The U17 instrumentation option include the clock. All gauge cars, re: 1969 Camaros, have a clock, period. The ones on the net that don’t have a clock, but do have guages? They were added after the car was built.

From the Camaro Research Group website: “Gauges (U16 or U17): The U17 gauge option was an option on any V8 car and required the ordering of a console. It included the tach, clock, fuel, oil, amp, and temperature gauges. The underdash wiring harness will have extra wiring going to the console wiring connector for the gauges and a different connector for the tachometer. There was a hole drilled in the firewall just behind the distributor for the oil line. In 69, the cluster will have a different cutout for the tach than for the standard fuel gauge.”

“Later 69 V8 cars were available with the U16 Tachometer which consisted of just a tachometer and a center mounted fuel gauge. A console was not required.

Later 69 Z28's were the only model that required a tachometer (via either U16 or U17”

Indeed, a clock, by itself, could be ordered irrespective of whether the car had a console or not. I, too, have a 69 with console (D55) and a clock, but no gauges.
To summarize, you could order a clock without gauges, but you could not order gauges without a clock.

This is one of my peeves about the 69 Camaro ( probably every car from this era could be said the same), is that it used to be scarce and a treasure to find a car with certain options. They just did not make that many cars that were heavily optioned. A newbie in today’s market would tend to believe every Camaro ordered in 69 came with a console, gauges, rosewood wheel, tilt, fold down seat, endura bumper, RS, 4.10 posi, spoilers,am-fm, Houndstooth ( with standard door panels, of course)and not complete without a ducted hood. Which is :bs:

I have paperwork for 96 '69 Camaros delivered to a local dealer. Average list price is $3,365. 14 cars listed under $3,000. Only 4 cars listed over $4,000, one of them being a Z11. 2 others were probably customer orders: an SS-RS with A/C and a Z/28-RS.

Very few options on cars ordered for stock.

Agreed, a lot of them I'm seeing for sale have the console, with gauges and no clock, so it throws a red flag, then I start thinking, what else is not right, I want to be sure to get a car I'm happy with, that is not all changed around and put together. Thanks again for your input! :flag:
