A Body Post Coupe Weight VS Coupe/Hardtop
 

On a Chevelle Facebook page there has been some discussion (and a lot of inaccurate information) about post cars, specifically the 300 Deluxe SS cars. A question was asked in regards to weight of the post cars versus the hardtop/coupe.
I was always under the impression that the post cars were lighter and obviously stronger. But the question is if the post cars are lighter in an apples to apples comparison to a hardtop, by how much lighter and where are the areas of the post car that make it lighter?
Years ago I had a 1970 Skylark post car with no AC. With a Stage 1 455 (BB Buicks weigh about the same as a SBC), Turbo 400 and 12 bolt Chevy axle it weighed 3460 empty with a 1/4 tank of fuel. That's BB Nova weight and I remember being very suprised at how light the car was at the time.

Thanks Lee. I was under the impression that the post cars were around 150/200lbs lighter.

So much miss information, you would hate it. I will find a good face book thread that might draw you in. (This won’t be it..... like 7 different people state that no SS396 300 Deluxe Post cars were built in 1969)

I've always found this question interesting as well, and hard to pin down.

If I'm reading the Chevy data correctly, it appears to indicate 40-45 lbs (using the difference between the 300 deluxe and 300 deluxe sport coupe).

I was trying to find Olds data a while back... shipping weights for '68 Hurst/Olds between the holiday (non post) and sport coupe (post) were only listed as a 10 lb difference. The AMA specs show curb weight at 3726 vs 3716, and shipping weight as 3568 vs 3558.

I've seen other numbers that indicate 20-30 lbs difference, with an overall range from 10-50 lb.

If anybody else had better info, it would be interesting to know...
