Replacement adhesive for inner panel to hood blobs?
 

I recently found a really nice Trans Am hood for my '75 Bird. It appears to have been media blasted on the underside. The metal is pristine but the blobs of adhesive that are supposed to support the space between the internal bracing and the outer skin are missing in a lot of spots now. Someone had tried using cheapo, hardware store, spray-foam insulation and that is just useless. I have scraped most of it away.

Anyone have any suggestions on what type of adhesive could be used to inject into the spots again to remake the supporting "blobs" that should be there? It needs to be something that keeps its form while hardening and stays in that one spot.

steve, go to a auto body supply store, they will have this specialized product. It is a liquid expanding dampening foam, same as oem on new cars today.

The other formula (8458) they make is a rigid design for door pillars and other internal applications.

Added problem is that you have to buy their applicator gun and tips...more money!

Lord Fusor 121 fast set expanding foam

The old original stuff is rock hard, not a foam.

I have used seam sealer a few times and it worked well.

And seam sealer does not get rock hard. Carry on.

I’ve reskined a few hoods and prefer to use panel bond adhesive. Two part epoxy which does not expand. It is amazing how stiff the hoods turn out compared to the originals which have begun separating.

I use windshield urethane sets up nice.
