GM 12 bolt rear
I need to know the lube capacity of the GM 12 bolt rear and torque of the cover bolts. Is the old school gasket still the preferred way to seal the cover. Thanks, Frank

2 quarts of oil and a bottle of GM limited slip oil additive, if it has the Eaton Posi. torque on the cover bolts would be 20 foot pounds. Usually you just add oil until it runs out of the fill hole.

Thanks Freddie, yes it has the Eaton posi. Would a gasket be the better way to seal it or silicone?
|
both new gasket and a very light smear of sealer
|
Yes, that's the way that I do it. Smear a thin coat of RTV on both sides of the gasket.

Thank you sir.

Permatex Aviation Sealer works well also with the gasket.

We use Permatex gear oil specialized formula Gasket Maker #81182 as it has been one of the only sealers I have used that seldom leaks. All the others seam to leak over time. As Rich said, the Aviation Sealer is also a great choice.
