Why do some sellers delete their asking prices after selling their items in the classified section?

I realize that the selling price is only between the seller and buyer, but when searching for a similar item it may be helpful knowing what the asking prices were.

I have wondered the same thing and for the same reason. Lets some of us know who are researching old sales to try and get a market value idea for similar parts we are selling.

Yes, I've been doing the same thing. I have no idea what some of my stuff is worth and I look through the classified adds to help me price stuff.

The original post is stored in the vBulletin database, if sYc site has the option enabled. Technically it would be simple to extract these into a single document for reference.

For a low tech option subscribe to the Parts for sale forum, with the daily email. Then set up an inbox rule in your eMail app to route them to a 'parts' folder (or just move them manually every so often). Now you can keyword search these emails to look stuff up.

I've had a few buyers ask me to delete the price once it sells. I also do not post a reply with sold as most do I just revise the ad and change selling to sold. That way it doesn't bump it back to the top.

The other day an item was listed for sale, quickly sold and the asking price was deleted. I’ve been looking for a similar item, and it would have been helpful to know how much I could expect to pay next time I find one.

I can see why someone flipping an item at a higher price might want the original asking price deleted, but it’s still the seller’s Ad not the buyer’s. If running an ad in the first place requires a price, I don’t know why it’s ok to delete that price once the item sells.

I'd prefer the # to remain too but seller's discretion best for some circumstances.
What I find confusing are ads w/ price reductions but previous pricing edited to the same new # so unless checking previously, you don't know what the original # was etc?:hmmm:

Same here, I figured I had priced below market which was why they asked I remove the price.
