Vintage Big Block Chevy header ID

I was hoping someone out there could help me identify these headers. These came off a 1969 Nova racecar. From what I can tell, it was an original L78 car that had a 427 transplanted into it very early on. The engine spun a bearing in the early 70's and the engine was pulled and stored. Based on that, I believe these headers to be from 1969 or the very early 70's. They have a unique collector that has bumps in it(for lack of a better word). They are stamped 415-L and 415-R on the flanges as shown. There may be more markings, I have not even wiped them down yet.

I also got all the other parts from the engine but the block including the 837 alt, 499 dizzy, 4346 Holley, L/78 Nova 5 blade fan, pulleys, and a bunch of other stuff as shown in the last picture. It will be for sale soon.

Please let me know if you can help ID these headers.

Thanks,

Jason

Jason,

I looked through every header catalog I have...no 415 number. They may be Dougs headers

I Looked at Jardine...Hookers..Dougs...Vaipar...Cyclone

Oil pan looks like an Impala pan 65-70 BB.

Dave,

Thanks for all the leg work. I was hoping these would be an easy ID but it looks like it may be a head scratcher. Yes, they do look quite big. The car was running a 68 427 that ended up being a L89 block. The guy I got these parts from ended up reuniting the block with the car.

69biscayne,

I think you are correct about the pan. It is definitely an interesting combination of parts. The heads are 1970 3964291 castings. The starter stamping comes back as 69 GTO but has a cast iron nose. The bellhousing is a 621 for the 11 inch clutch. All other parts look correct for a 69 l78 Nova likely built late January.

Thanks,

Jason

Agree it does. I thought maybe the 6 quart pan you could buy over the counter but i can't see the weld seam on the deep sump area of the pan. Oil pump doesn't look like a deep sump pick up screen either.

Jason: I believe I know who manufactured those headers. I was looking through my old car magazines and saw a picture of headers with that unusual header flange. I would bet those are Casler headers. We didn't see much of them here in NE Ohio as I believe they were manufactured in California. If you can find a Casler header catalog, i would think it could verify them for you. Don.

Don,

Thank you very much. I will look into it.

What size are the primary tubes ?

SuperNovaSS 05-04-2019 02:39 AM

The inside diameter of each pipe is about 1.9 inches. The outside diameter is 2 inches.
