The first year for big block Shelby Mustangs. These were 428 PI engines with dual quad carbs. Love the look of the inboard lights!

I love those '67 Shelbys... nothing like them!

Inboards only on first 1,000 (about) cars. 67 Shelbys are my favorite too.

You gotta love the horsepower ratings that Shelby/Ford used for the 67 GT500. Ford lists the HP for the 428 P.I. single quad as 360. Shelby adds a second quad and the HP drops to 355!.

Didn't some of the very early ones have "running lights" at the rear of the scoops on the roof?

Bought a 1967 Shelby 21 years ago and still have. Was a local car that was in Hemmings for 6 months. Took me 3 months to pull the trigger as I knew Chevrolet buy not Ford. Great car and a lot of fun. The first 200 cars did have the scope brake lights but the government made them stop later made them stop the inboards also for safety concerns? The one thing that drives me nuts is many 1967 Shelby's have their GT 350 or GT 500 side stripes on wrong. They are suppose to start or end at the end or start of the fender/door line and not in the middle which the factory did for 1968. They had to squeeze the engine in the car and thus shaved the bottom edge off the DS valve cover so it would not hit the master brake cylinder. To change the DS rear spark plug it is easier to remove the master brake cylinder to do so.

Early '67's had the lamps towards the middle of the grille as later '67's- due to insurance/federal automotive mandates- they were forced to move the lamps outboard. That's why they were moved mid to late year production.

I am not sure if this is "insurance/federal mandates," but it has been my understanding the headlights were moved because there was a law that required lights to be a certain distance from each other.

That law was for California and a few other states. Another reason they were moved was when the GT500 was ordered with AC it had a tendency to overheat because of the blocked air flow.
