Trick Flow Heads

Anyone in here have experience with them? There is a guy here local selling a pair and I was wondering if they were decent. I'm putting them on a 383 I'm having built, and was wondering if these would be decent for low to mid end torque. They're Series 1 Twisted Wedge aluminum heads, 64cc combustion chamber, 180cc intake runner, 2.02/1.6, valves, beehive springs, up to 0.650 lift, and includes all new guides and seats, etc.

I have both series 1 and 2 heads, the series 1 design suffered from valvetrain geometry problems resulting in valve guide wear and used unobtailable guide plates. Make sure they come with guide plates then I would install bronze guides and check the geometry very closely. They also require a special roller rocker arm design on the intake I believe to maintain the geometry. Series 2 was re-designed to eliminate the geometry problems and you can still order the guideplates I think. I do like the series 2 design, but the heads are really not much better than a good aluminum inline valve head from trick flow or AFR. My plan was to flow test both designs, then port the heads and flow test again. The main advantage of these heads is the chambers are small with large quench area, which requires less timing lead for best power.

Here is an outrageous example of the 1st gen guide plate:

You will need 4 right and 4 left.

The trick flow heads for Ford Windsors and Mod motors actually worked very well and are popular, and still for sale. The Chevy versions never really caught on and both generations were cancelled.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll pass on these. I thought maybe they would work well for me as the price was right, but I'd rather have something with less questions around them.

Appreciate it.
