Nice Day 2 '62 409 Bubbletop, Mostly Orig Paint
Factory 6-cyl car, but you sure don't see original paint '62 bubbletops on every corner. Judging by the prices I see of project cars, this seems to be a pretty fair deal. One of 3825 ordered with the 6 that year.

The price guides are pretty much right when they say to add 75% to the value for a 409. Of course, that doesn't mean the car has to be real. It just has to have those funny shaped valve covers under the hood and everyone opens their wallets. This car is a perfect example. An up front clone. No false claims.

Verne, what is the deal with the 3 piece bumpers on California cars? I have seen a number of them with 3 piece bumpers, did they sub the 3 piece for the one piece for a time or have they just been swapped put over the years?

As far as I know, all the originals were one piece. Lots of things got changed on these cars after they were new. Even the "original" cars.

Bid to $49,5k the last time around, and relisted in the link below with a $60k buy-it-now. Sounds like the seller is taking offers if the car doesn't hit the reserve.
I still think this is a pretty fair deal if it could be bought around $50k. There are just so few nice ones around, and to see one with some original paint is pretty rare. Link to 1962 Bel Air Bubbletop auction |
Almost purchased this car around 2007-ish for $30K when it still had the 6-cylinder still in it. It was far from the ideal color combination but it did appear to be one of nicest, unmolested examples that I’ve encountered in a very long time that hadn’t been transformed into a poorly-done 409 clone like countless others . . . yet.

I wonder if it comes with a hood?
