'74 Pinto Wagon

Wow, I remember Steve Magnante referring to his Pinto as the automotive equivalent of birth control.... It was amazingly spacious inside, though, and could swallow an entire big-block in the cargo area (never mind the effect on handling).

This would be the ultimate sleeper with a more interesting drivetrain.

Couldn't have been too many of these that survived, even in the dry southwest air.

...try to shoehorn in a Foxbody 5.0 to match those telephone dial rims.

Yeah, after seeing those wheels I was hoping it had a late model 5.0 under the hood already.

A friend used to call those wheels "egg poachers."

Back in 74, I came scary-close to trading in my 73 Z28 on a Pinto wagon to try and get better gas mileage. Luckily the Ford dealer had none in stock to my liking and I eventually came to my senses.

In HS we took one of these and stuffed a 351 Cleaveland in it without too much trouble, left the rest of it pretty much stock. Had a rip street racing it and replaced the rear at east a half dozen times. It finally broke a motor mount, radiator fan chewed threw the radiator and that was it's demise. Tons of fun while it ran though
