I dug out some old photos of that day and took pics of the pics.

OK Corvette experts, chime in.

First two pics,
What in the world is this GM contraption.
Looks to be an FI unit with a blower ?
Is that a smart phone in the pocket. LOL.

Third pic,
Another FI that’s been augmented ?

Last two photos,
Corvette being judged.
Does anyone recognize the guy in the white t-shirt in both photos? He looks familiar.

PS, what year did the “Repro” (non factory) Teakwood Wheel originate?

Chris.

C1 rochester fuel injected supercharged BOCAR

60sStuff 12-21-2020 02:45 AM

That is really cool !

Lee Stewart,

Imagine popping the hood and seeing this. WOW.

Thank you for posting that information and photos.

How many of these units were built?

Chris.

Very Kool!

Not just any supercharger, though. His 451 Roots-style unit was originally designed by none other than Zora Duntov and John Dolza. (The latter was the engineer also known for developing the first fuel-injection system on a ’57 Corvette, which made the 283hp, 283cid small-block the first production engine in the world to boast 1 hp per cubic inch). However, it was GM engineers John Camden and Lou Cuttitta who made this feisty air pump work on an actual car back in the late ’50s. Apparently five prototypes were built, and only two were ever installed on cars for testing.

"Tested on work order April 2 1957"

Perhaps as a response to the supercharged 57 Thunderbirds???? Pretty cool stuff!

Lee Stewart 12-21-2020 03:09 AM

Supposedly it boosted the 283/283 HP up to 360
