Restored and owned by the original builder, Don Hardy.

My deceased friend Craig Schindler owned this car since the early 1970's when he bought it from Bruce Neff. Bruce bought it from Dick in 1968. Don bought it from Craig's estate.

When Bill Thomas built Dick's 1966 Chevy II, it is rumored Bill told Dick, "This car will make you famous". Dick replied, "No, not me, it will make you famous". This car made Don Hardy Racing Cars famous.

Don Hardy has done the Camaro fraternity a wonderful service restoring this car.

I remember where he bought his original 67 caprice that some lady was selling. It was posted on this site. I couldn’t find it. Maybe somebody can find the posts

Yes, Craig lived in Michigan. He started working for Chevrolet in the mid 1960's. He ran this car as a gasser, and finally took it apart to restore, however, never got to finish it. He ran at Milan.

Dave Libby, (deceased) who was a Dick Harrell employee, told me he didn't believe Craig actually had the car, because Craig would never let anybody inspect it. I knew it was true, however, as my friend Bill Porterfield had seen the car. Craig was actually concerned if the cars location was known, it might be stolen, due to its incredible history. He kept the cars' major components in several private locations to minimize the possibility of this occurring.

I met Craig in 2002 in LaHarpe, when he was visiting for the Fred Gibb Memorial car show. He showed me the rear deck lid off this car. He was on his way to visit Don Hardy to discuss the car, and its history. Don Hardy died on November 30, 2020. I'm glad he was able to restore and own Dick's car. He always wanted one of his original Camaro's as he did not have that opportunity when the 1967 Kelly Chadwick Camaro (his 1st) was restored.

1st picture is the Dick Harrell car, when in Don's shop being restored.

The 2nd is of Don's 1st Camaro, owned by Kelly Chadwick, when it was borrowed by Dick, before his car was finished.

The 3rd is of the main body/chassis of Dick's '67 when Don received it. I recognize the deck lid, sitting on the roof of the car.

thanks for posting the 67 Funny car

Ro McGonegal article on Don Hardy

says when he did the 1967 Camaros for Kelly Chadwick and Dick Harrell, Don used factory-supplied bodies in white.
