Gas Tank Restoration? Acid Dipping?

Hey everyone,

Wondering how some of you have handled this for judging purposes when it comes to the gas tank. Car has its original dated tank but is in desperate need of a restore if it is going to be used. I had considered acid dipping the tank but wanted to reach out and see how crucial judges are on original tanks being used since it is somewhat of a safety concern.

Thanks
Andy

I’m not aware of anyone with one of the correct new gas tanks getting dinged in judging.

My dad redoes a number of fuel tanks on OLD cars from the 20's to the 50's - he uses a kero fired hot water pressure washer to clean them out then uses ospho to remove all of the rust then uses the 2 part fuel tank coating. He has been doing this for 10 plus years (40+ tanks) and never had any issues with the tanks or ethanol fuel harming the coatings etc.
