Oil Pan Difference - 69Z

Friend of mine called and asked if I knew what the difference would be in a 69Z oil pan - vs. a 1970? Seems his sept of 69Z has a 70 oil pan?

Any insight as to the differences - or would a late 69 have a 70 pan, similar to other late 69-70 transition parts?

Appreciate your insight on this....

Seems to me there was a big article on this site some years back. I'll see if I can find it unless somebody know exactly where it is....Joe

Eddie; I can't tell you if there was a difference between the 69 and 70 assembly line pans.

I do know some late 69's got the second design valve covers with drippers, starting in about August. It would make sense that IF the 1970 Z/28 oil pan was functionally the same, they COULD have started using it early.

I know for certain that the 69 assy line pan has multiple differences from the ones that were sold over the counter starting some time in the 70s.

Comparison is here: https://www.camaros.net/threads/nos-...l-pans.178450/

Lynn, That is my thought - but i guess we would need some examples of the late cars inspected and determined if either pan was used.

i did see your thread on the camaro net site - interesting and informative.....

looking for more info.....thank you...

Guessing my first question is:

Are we certain that 69 and 70 Z/28 used different oil pans?
Would like to see pics of each to compare.

I do have a 1970 LT-1, but it is a Corvette, so the pan is MUCH different from the Camaro.

Perhaps Mike (RSZMJT) can chime in on this. He has had many of these pans off and probably knows more than enough about the differences between the 69 Z pans, 70 LT1 pans, and most of the corvette pans. I recall there are a couple of differences between them but will leave him to chime in and tell you about those if he sees this thread.

I know the later L-82 pans are similar but had noticeable external differences in the strengthening "ribs" that are pressed in for strength also slight internal changes too
here's a good thread with info
