Muncie Input shaft Course 10 Spline 26 Tooth Identification M20 or M22 ?

4 Attachment(s)
Muncie Input Shaft Identification >>> Course 10 Spline 26 Tooth M20 or M22, GM box does not show part number clearly.

I know 1963 to 1965 M20 had this course 10 spline shaft with 26 tooth count gear but also the 1965 to 1969 M22 had the same course 10 spline shaft with 26 tooth count gear.

I am no expert but are the gears cut for an M20 or M22 ?
Thanks in advance TOM.

I'm no expert either Tom, but it looks to me like an M22 input shaft to me. It has the thicker straight cut gearing as seen in the image below. Here's an example from all the Muncie info posted on Team Chevelle. That page always comes in handy for me.

63-65 no rings on input shaft and has 24 tooth count.

The input you have is a 1963 Borg-Warner close ratio 9310.
1963 is the only year Borg-Warner used the left hand nut to retain the front bearing.
In the pictures you can see the oil holes just below where the input bearing would ride,
Muncie's don't have these.
The drill dimple where the bearing goes designates 9310 alloy.

Hope this helps... Crash

I dont think thats a Muncie 4 speed input, see the small protruding register on the front of the input just in front of the in mesh teeth? notice it has a small oiling hole? Muncies did not use this, also the machined register for the main shaft in the back of input appears too small to accept a Muncie caged input roller bearing assembly, it kinda resembles a Borg T10 design in which the rollers were individual stacked. I think its a aftermarket 9310 input.
Can you post a better larger picture of part number?

Here is that larger photo of whats left of the Part # I also re counted the gears and there are 27 of them not 26. Still a 10 count spline.
