BIG WIN!! Right to repair...
This will set precedent.
The Detroit three cannot be happy... I am. If I own it --it's MINE. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-64206913 |
That is good news.
Let your Federal representative and senator know that you want Congress to pass "right to repair" or "fair repair" legislation. About 20 states have enacted such legislation, but I don't think the feds have ever followed through. Too much lobby money. Gets bogged down every time they bring it up. Most folks on BOTH sides of the aisle would like to see this. The other thing that really gets me is everyone going to "subscriptions" on software (and even other things). Microsoft wants me to subscribe to Word. I already OWN multiple licenses for Word. I can almost guarantee they are going to try and make all of my software obsolete. BMW is even considering testing whether they can make the heated seats in your new car a subscription. You quit paying the subscription and they will remotely turn off the heated seats. I am all for capitalism and a fair profit, but this isn't fair, IMHO. |
I agree on the subscriptions - too bad you can't own anything anymore - you're just leasing. No upfront costs but the monthly/yearly nut has gotten huge. We spend over $100k/yr for various software subscriptions at my small commercial construction company. Progress I guess. Can't conduct business without them though - so not much choice.
Rant over.......... |
Most automotive OEs are careful about right to repair laws in each state. Because of this, all tools, mechanical and electronic are available to anyone who cares to purchase them along with service information. It’s not cheap but it’s there for anyone who wants it.
