Can anyone identify this odd connector?

Has anyone ever seen a connector that looks like this? I have NO idea what this is and have never seen it before. The filter looks to be simply open and pass through. The connector is nothing more than a connector. No clue why or how this got on this LS6. I have seen a lot of odd things in my years of doing inspections but this is a new one. Anyone have an idea please let me know.

So the two fasteners for the pictured intake runner are studs & nuts? And the bracket for the pictured switch fastens to the rear stud? Wow Rick if this has YOU stumped, most of us are gonna be also :dunno:
edit: maybe the fastener in front of the intake runner is a bolt, but it looks too shiny to be an OEM bolt. |
The intake bolts, washer and stud are incorrect hardware. Its that black plastic connector between the reproduction TCS and the factory plug in harness that has me stumped.

It looks like a resister of some sort or thermal limiter as found on some AC cars. The TSC switch used on 71 Olds had a resister tear ran across the connector on their TSC wire connector. Is this some type of fusible link.
I agree if it has Rick Stumped, who knows. Was this a CA car,high altitude? Late build/ |
It appears the original harness plugs into that "thing". Is the spade width different on the repo TCS and that is just an adapter ? I can't imagine it could be much of a resistor without the plastic melting..:dunno:

Just a wild guess but does it fit nicely on one of the tube connectors? I'm guessing it is to allow a filtered bypass of sorts if you were to unplug the connector and slip the filter tube on one of the tube fittings. Not sure exactly why they would do this, but if it fits tightly it seems like too much of a coincidence.

The factory connector plugs into this 'filter thing' perfectly and the 'filter thing' plugs into the TCS perfectly as well. When I removed it altogether the factory harness plugs into the reproduction TCS just fine like they all do. Not mine to throw away but I sure wonder why someone went to the effort to put it there when I can see absolutely no use for it.

Maybe it is one of those 'trick parts' they used to sell in the JC Whitney catalogs :wink:
You know...bolt this gizmo on and get more horsepower and better gas mileage. Right up there with the liquid ring job products...:rolleyes2: |
