From what I understand, it was George Foltz who built all the Can Am engines for Can Am Racing until 1970. He worked in Chevrolet's engine department. Not all were all aluminum Engines. Not all Teams got the all aluminum Engine, in 67-68 only the Chaparall Team tested them and in 1969 the Mclaren Team also got access to it. now 430 and 465.
There were L88 engines for other Teams, 430 452 465 Iron block.

George Foltz also had Magnesium Valve Covers

In 1970 when Chevrolet closed down the division George Foltz started his own company and continued to build engines for Can Am racing

Yes, I believe Bill King got involved in the very early 70s after Foltz, building for Owens Corning, Chaparral etc. I had a Bill King built LS7 with aluminum heads in my '70 Vette (original owner had Bill King Racing Engines build it)...50 year old build that still runs like a clock.

The George Foltz Iron Block that I have is a 396512 date D 22 9 and it is 452 cui. Found the Block in a Contanier in Northern Sweden where it has been sitting from the mid 70s. Its in Carleen now since 2 years ago. It got 077 Heads no casting date. 7115 crank. 4.375 12 to 1 Pistons that I bought from someone here on yenko.net. 3959180 camshaft. Edelbrock C427X intake and Holley 950 3 barrel. This setup is not ideal to drive on the street with. Low vacuum in the intake. But She Screams

There was an Italian guy who lived in Sweden who shipped the block to Sweden. His name was Bruno Donati and he had a company called Ital American. He was one of those who tried to speed up Drag Racing in Sweden. He went over to the States and filled Contaniers with Hi Perf engines and parts a couple of times a year. He Raced the -70 Speedwin Hemi Cuda. Funny Cars. Topfuel and Jet Dragster. He had an accident the clutch exploded and his legs were gone. He sold everything and moved from Sweden. The parts that were left were bought by a company in northern Sweden and the Block sat in a corner in a container until I found it.

I dont know if the 14011077 Heads are right for this engine. They have golf ball dimples in the combustion chamber. They did this on some Pontiac Heads and it gain 40 HP. I read that this is something that came from German fighter aircraft engines WW2. The earliest 077 Heads I believe are 14011076 and they dont have Casting Date. The ones I have dont have any Date. The earliest with a date that Ive seen is from 1970

Jimlt4383 I apologize that I Hijacked this thread

I was wrong. In the book Chevrolet-Racing ? it says that Mclaren and the Penske Team got the All Aluminum CanAm Engine in 1968.
Team Mclaren used the 465 cui version.
