'61 Impala SS Drag Car

Another car where I wish we still had Verne Frantz to call on....

Seller is claiming this car began life as an original Super Sport car, but without any proof provided, who knows.

C'mon Tony, it says "S/S" in big letters on the front fenders....isn't that proof enough? :haha:

Seriously, it does have the "Impala SS" emblem on the dash mounted grab bar. Certainly not ironclad proof, but there probably aren't too many of them floating around to install on a non-SS car :dunno:

What a cool car!! I’m digging it!

would be a lot cooler if it was actually running a 409...

It has been said that it should not have the crossed flag emblem behind the grab bar if it’s an original SS, but I believe at least one well documented ‘61 SS has both the bar and the emblem. The California assembled SS cars have “SS” stamped on the trim tag, which is very convenient for those cars if you’re documenting. Tommy Nolan might be a good one to chime in here.
