As long as there is a thread going on this subject, I have a question about the repops.
When I was putting my car together 10 plus years ago, I had an OER repop that absolutely would not fit. I sold it for $100 and found a used GM over the counter pad (with the infamous bald spot). Like everything else I buy, I over paid because it was genuine GM. The underlying fiberglass structure was very brittle. I had to reinforce several places using aluminum, epoxy and pieces of the substructure from an original beat to death dash pad; but it fit reasonably well. Fit is still reasonable, but it has two issues: 1. It still outgasses, making the surface a bit sticky. It is easy enough, albeit a bit time consuming, to fix each year using car wax judiciously and wiping it clean with terry cloth. Kind of a pain. 2. There are a couple of places on it that I describe as "roached out" where the surface is very rough, like maybe it got a bit hot. I see no way to fix that, so have just lived with it. Because of the above, I was watching this thread. I remember, right after I put my car together, CHQ (or someone) supposedly came up with a retooled repop that looks great and fits perfectly. As with all things repop, I am a bit skeptical. Summit has two dash OER brand dash pads, both without A/C, with two different part numbers and two different prices. Is one a leftover of the crappy fit series? 3995785 for $369.99 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/o...SABEgLqYPD_BwE 3935941 for $314.99 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/o...D_BwE#overview I have zero confidence that calling Summit result in a sales rep that can tell me the difference. |

Lynn we have a new sponsor Camaro Central. They are incredibly knowledgeable on all Camaro related products. They do stock CHQ dash pads.
They do have a special Halloween special $30 off purchases over $300. Check with them you might be able to save some money. Link: https://www.camarocentral.com/ |

Got the new pad installed this evening. Only two fitment issues. 1. I had to use an exacto knife to trim off some flashing where the spring clips mount to the pad. Not a big deal. 2. The little ear on the driver's side is a bit thicker than the GM pad. I cannot get it to fit between the dash and the kick panel trim. All other fasteners lined up very well with minimal pulling/pushing.
Guys "in the know" will be able to tell it isn't original GM, but overall, way better than most aftermarket POS stuff. |
