Kustom/GM Corvette SB Side Exhaust, 3977971/2

Folks, I have this super clean set of side exhaust, made by Kustom Headers of Flint, MI for the 63-72 Corvette (in fact they will probably fit all the way to 82). These are complete minus the muffler inserts which can still be purchased new. These are in great condition and still have most of the original dip paint with all the runs. There are a couple small dings from having been moved around in a garage attic since the late 1970s. My guess is these were run for a very short time, owner decided they were too loud, and removed. To me, this is as good as it gets for a C2 exhaust system. Looking for $1500, pickup preferred. Thanks sYc!

THAT is so cool!

----Not sure but that looks like a GM part number. Can anyone look that up? I installed many sets of small and big block OK Kustom sidepipes back in my early Ft Liquerdale days. Had 'em on my 69 Monaco orange L88 'vert! Much better quality than Hookers and other manufacturers.....Bill S

Would be bad ass on my LT-1.

I am missing my original system, so this would probably be cheaper than a complete Gardner system (with the swaged 2 to 2.5 inch downpipes).

I appreciate all the interest and PMs on these pipes. RobR sent these pictures from the Chevrolet Green Sheets outlining the part numbers and assembly process...just awesome! Andy also has some cool info he may post on this thread for additional context. Thanks, gents!

Bill’s correct as essentially a GM Part being Kustom Headers Flint was GM’s Supplier then.
‘72 Kustom Catalogue below includes Part # 1519 as subject Stamping also GM Part# 3977972 as Cross Reference Chart, was there a GM Hi-Performance Part # for the Sidepipes?
Cool too is other than being a SB application, they’re the same as the Kustom system on the Owens/Corning L88!:headbang:
:beers:

What year were these introduced with a GM part number?

----Not sure, but I installed a small block set in early 1970 on my new 70 LT1 Corvette. I installed another set on 69 big block with AC (had a complete 454/450 hp dropped in). Can't quite remember what date that was. Originality wasn't in my vocabulary back then.....Bill S

Way Cool parts. Mine were purchased in 1971 for BB application, an LS7 454 Corvette build...the LH is stamped 3960709 and the RH is 3960710.
