69 Camaro - 396/4 Speed Lemans Blue/Black Houndstooth - Tag Opinion
Whilst my search for a nice original 69 base coupe hasn't been successful yet, I've come across another car that I'm trying to get a gauge on before making a move. Looking for opinions on the trim tag photo the seller has sent. Car is currently dressed as an RS/SS 396/375HP. Obviously being an X66 tag on a rally sport body is the first red flag (presumably original RS body as much as the photos show), however I've spotted enough incorrect aspects that have me doubting if the car is even an original SS and the tag just doesn't look right - possibly a fake.
Thoughts? https://images.clickpix.org/KPgPbE.jpeg For future reference and search engines: 12437 NOR339088 713 71-71 05E X66 |
There are reasons to believe it is a repro tag. Rivets are obvious.

Agreed it is a fake tag.

I wonder why someone would fake a tag and get the wrong X code on it. Should be X22, but I guess they didn't know that.

Just as I suspected. X66 on a RS body is just one of the problems I’ve spotted. I guess whoever installed the tag and built it to a RS/SS 396/375HP wasn’t too knowledgeable on the nuances. Unfortunately the car is now being represented for sale as an original here in Australia with the six figure price tag to match.

Obvious reproduction tag as stated. Can you post the VIN for posterity?

Not even close. Probably a pre 2007 TrimTags.com tag.
