293 BR coil indexing

Hi Guys,

Quick question, what direction does the does the embossed 293 BR face when mounted in the bracket? In the judging manual it says the numbers should be index towards the back of the car.... But the picture in the judging manual shows the numbers facing the front of the car?

The negative side of the coil should be next to the distributor.

I am a firm believer that if you are gonna pay the extra for an original coil, might as well face the numbers so you can see them.. :)

Thank guys, I ended up with the embossed PN facing rearward and the negative pointing towards the distributor.

@PacecarJeff I know right, I wanted to show off my cool BR coil.

If you mount like the book shows it, you can’t lose points.

As the Judging Manuals are version 1.0 there are several examples where the "drapes don't match the carpet", that is to say a photo may not correctly show the assembly or part referenced in the description. Overall the Manuals reflect a good initial effort however they are not perfected (and may never be - consider NCRS Judging Guides that have been in publication for many years and are constantly being revised) so if there is an inconsistency, as called out in this thread, enquire and adjust accordingly. I have done just that for several items that are not correctly shown or described in the 1969 Manual. On original cars the embossing on the coil was oriented toward the firewall per the description. Although an argument can be made that following the Manual should not result in a points deduction IMO it's not worth the time and effort to mount the challenge which may not produce the desired result, instead making the adjustment is the better strategy particularly where the Manual is inconsistent.

Many portions of these new Camaro manuals utilized information from the Corvette judging manuals.

Corvette were produced in one plant only, and mostly utilized one vendor for each required part. Camaros and most other GM vehicles were produced in multiple plants and utilized many different parts vendors. It's safe to say that the actual assembly process was much different then was used at the St. Louis Corvette plant. Not to mention that the Corvette Coils were mounted on the opposite side of the motor. I always mount my left side coils so the numbers show. it just feels nicer...
