1969 Z 2/8 early smog

I have a 1969 Z survivor car 09c of 68 built My question is on the driver side smog tube line should it come out the middle or should it be like the hockey stick the normal that I see all the time.I thought that the early cars always come out in the center and then the second design was the hockey stick but Jerry's book it states that the one comes out in the center is second design so what would be the first design to be correct for my car

And how hard is it to find the one that comes out of the center the early stall design smog tube I really never see them come up for sale

Engine bay photo from the January '69 Hot Rod magazine. Car still exists; was final assembled on or about September 30, 1968.

I doubt there was a first/second design. Both were production parts; workers used whatever was available.

Just an FYI,. A 2D survivor car Z28 I owned had the early style left smog tube. I believe it's a valid data point because this car was never modified and the original owner still owned until 2006/2008. Exhaust manifold/smog had never been removed, however normal maintenance items were replaced as needed.

So I can use either style both would be correct for my Early car.I ask because I have a original hockey stick style for my car thanks for all the help

I've always believed the Drivers side Hockey stick tube was the first design used on the earlier assemblies, and the middle connection tube was the second design used on later assemblies. When exactly that change occurred,I don't know, but I believe your early camaro should have the first design Hockey stick tube before you asked this question, and Jerrys book,Williams photo and Steves photo support this.

Steve,I see the drivers side second design on your 2D camaro.

The middle connection tube looks like the same as Corvettes used

Correct the hockey stick is the first design, and what you are referring to as second design was in fact used in 1968 and again reintroduced in Feb of 69. I previously referred to as earlier because it was used in 1968 but in 69 it was reintroduced and referred to as 2nd design in the book you reference.
