I know from the holiday posts that a lot of the SYC gang like to cook....and eat :smile:

Karen and I are looking to do a 'resto' on our vintage kitchen...you know, cabinets, stove, fridge, lighting, etc. We did some local research with a building supply house and the service was less than stellar. I started doing research on buying cabinets online [wholesale?]...there are lots of choices.

Just wondering if anyone has some real life experience going this route and perhaps a suggestion on a good source.

Have you considered looking into local, "custom" cabinet builder/installers ? We had the kitchen in our previous hose remodeled and after looking at box store and online cabinets that are usually veneer over particle board we spent the couple thousand more to have a local company build solid Oak cabinets built to fit our kitchen and installed. I saved a bit of money by doing the tear out and changes, repairs myself, which is a whole 'nuther story, but I digress. Having them custom made, also, allows you the option to pick from more door designs and mix and match styles more than pre-made.

We have bought 4 new refrigerators in the last several years and they are all junk. The popular name brands are all made in China and have a life expectancy of 7 years, 7 years ! Our previous house had a Sub Zero fridge when we bought it and it was 25 years old when we replaced it during the remodel. Hindsight would have been to have it repaired and keep it. The GE Profile we replaced it with started having cooling issues at 3 years old.

The Kitchen Aid we bought for our current home, 5 years ago, has failed 3 times in 5 years and Whirlpool, the parent company will do NOTHING to help, not even replace a Known defective user interface panel, control panel to use mortals. It, also, had an issue with not defrosting properly almost from new and it was 13 months old when I came across a repair site that had pics of the cooler side temperature thermistor installed on the hot, high pressure side instead of the cold low side and it failed. This is a known issue also that was done at the FACTORY in China and they still won't stand behind the cost of repair.
Junk Maytag washers, etc, etc.... can you tell I HATE cheap chinesium junk appliances, well, actually, everything that comes from there.

When I remodeled my kitchen a few years ago, I went with subzero for my refrigerator and Wolff appliances. Something my wife and I have really found ourself using a ton is a wolf steam oven. Look into it. They’re pretty cool and you’ll be surprised of how versatile.

I just walked over to our 17 year old Sub-Zero and gave it a hug.

We're looking into refacing our cabinets, about 17 years and showing wear.

Our Sub Zero was installed in 1985 and still works great with an annual de-icing ritual in the summertime. Customer for life....

Not dismissing the original post, but I saw this a few months back and thought how true and how funny it is.

We did our kitchen in 2006. Installed a Wolf gas top electric oven that had problems last year. Amazingly, the service tech. is less than an hour away. He replaced the circuit board, did a couple other things and when finished he said 'never replace this - the newer units aren't as good."

Nobody cares, but I have a made in Korea, SAMSUNG French Door Refer/Freezer...14 years old that has never needed service, never broke down.........Is it better than a SubZero..........NO!!!!!!!! Not everybody can afford a SUB ZERO.............

On another note Ive had good pricing buying Cheap Asian built TCL Flatscreen and MIsc Appliances from on line site ElectronicExpress.com

My Cheap CHINESE 65" TCL 6 series Flatscreen has worked Flawlessly for several years now...........I researched all the big reviewing web sites
and the 6 series TCL was highly rated at that time..........I got hella good price at ElectronicExpress, Veterans Discount $50 Shipping from TN
to Seattle , via AIR and then Truck to My Door AND No WA State Sales Tax...........

Have same Samsung refer/freezer. Works great. Thank you for that link also.
