Story Behind Penske-Donohue 1968 Sunoco Camaro

How fitting that it's in the last issue of Muscle Machine and the cover says it all- Trans-Am Domination. Yes winning 9 of 11 races is domination but a complete team effort made it possible from team owner Roger Penske, Mark Donohue, Sun Oil, GM engineering and the ability come up with the many Unfair Advantages by interpreting/bending the rule, just better than their rivals.

This is a 6-page article by Cam Benty with much help by our member Jon Mello a Trans Am historian with many decades of research and Tom McIntyre owner of the Penske Team 1968 #6 Trans-Am Camaro. Kudos to all involved!

I had the pleasure of Judging this class at the Arizona Concours in January. Met the current owner Tom McIntyre. Amazing stories .

Tom McIntyre showed the car in a near completed state at the 1987 Monterey Historics (I took photos) when Chevrolet was the featured marque and he had bought it a couple of years before if I remember correctly so he has had it for 40 years out of the 57 that it has been in existence. That's pretty impressive. He has been a magnificent caretaker of the car and its legacy, plus he has raced it every year. It's very cool that HMM chose this car for their final issue.
