Muffler recommendation 69 L-78 Camaro
Looking to do a Day 2 Exhaust on my 69 L-78 Camaro. I think I'm pretty much going with A Set of the Mickey Thompson Scavenger replicas from Sweet Ave Fabrications. Gonna have my local muffler shop who does a lot of work on vintage muscle to fab me some 2 1/2" Exhaust but I'm currently unsure on which mufflers to go with. The L-78 motor is all original with less than 10K miles on it. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Hard to beat just your standard "Turbo" style muffler but the trend from what I am seeing is the thrush round cans or if you can find them the thrush turbo style. Are you dumping it a the diff or running out to stock location?

I'll second the Turbo style muffler.
One of my favorites to use is the Dynomax 17749 muffler. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/w...lTFKtzYjwOvtw6 |
On my old L88 powered 68, I had Dynomax Ultraflow's on there (3"). Those sounded good, and in period if that makes sense. I chose those in that particular application, as the regular Dynomax turbo mufflers would neck down to 2.5" inside. Given you are going with a 2.5" system, I would suggest this particular Dynomax muffler. It packages well in an F body car. If memory serves me right, this is true to the old Corvair turbo muffler.

I ditched the flowmaster mufflers due to the drone noise and installed the Dynomax mufflers (Corvair turbo style) years ago.

Thank You to all who responded...I'll check into the recommended mufflers.

I like the sound and performance of the Hooker Aero Chambers, but Tim's suggestion of the Dynomax 17733 Super Turbo Muffler (modern Corvair Turbo style) is an awesome muffler if you want good sound while keeping it period correct looking.
Here's 2 cars at idle with each of them running the MT style headers and the 2 mufflers I mention above. Day 2 Nova w/ MT Headers and NOS Corvair Turbo Mufflers Day 2 Camaro w/ MT Headers and Hooker Aero Chamber Mufflers |
Here are a couple pics from the underside of those 2 cars when finished. Both were running 2.5" dual exhaust with balance tubes. Nova was right to the rear quarters tucked up high, and the Camaro had duals that dumped at the axle for deeper sound. The hookers are quiet with no drone when you run the tails right out to the back.
