Drag radials for the reunion

Planning on racing at the upcoming reunion...
I just cant seem to make the polyglas tires work, a 4-spd and 4.88's dont help. So I was thinking about grabbing some drag radials. Should be much better than polyglas - but I am now debating if I should just get slicks and hope I dont break anything. BTW, thinking 275/60-15 Nitto 555R's on Cragar 15x8 (4.5 in backspace). I believe the tire is 28 inches tall - should work nicely with the 4.88's.
If you guys have any oppinions or experiences let me know.
I better decide soon... THANKS

Well, I don't have experience...

...but Pete does! Grab your back issues of MCR (from '98 I think?) and look at the shootout they did with Pete's 3 COPO cars. They all switched to Drag Radials and I know the Camaro got some MONSTERS on it.

Also, Dru Deisner, I believe, runs Drag Radials on his Yenko Camaro...I'll see if I can dig up an email addy.

Just in case you're wondering, my vote is for the Polys, just for the challenge factor and lesser chance of breaking anything, BUT an L-88/4speed/4.88 car THAT CAN HOOK should be a blast...

Mark, like Rob, i would love to see the car launch with a good set of slicks, but would lean towards polyglas, simply to minimize the chance of breakage. What ever you decide, I applaud you for giving us the opportunity to see this rare car in action.

TOM/ROB--make a good point on tires----488's dig in like a back-hoe with slicks on.----- I'm just sentimental about Motion cars.

Hi AL,
I'm only refering to some give on launch, not going down the 1/4 fishtailing.I'd would guess the drag radials are a good compromise between polys and slicks. And it all depends how high the rpms are coming off the line.--------- Parts break on a car when they feel like.

Re: Drag radials for the reunion

You know, Mark, it may not be *that bad* of a thing to run the Nittos on there...I'd forgotten, but JJ was the shoe behind the Nova and Chevelle when they tested Pete's cars, and I'll guarantee you no one could drive them any harder than JJ! You can attest to that! Of course, the Chevelle did suffer from a broken axle tube, but Pete thought was on it's way out before the day at the track, but the Nova lived!

I say GO FOR IT!!!!

Try a set of the BF Goodrich drag radials, they BITE very well and not too much.I have a friend that has a set on his 55 chevy and he has a 750 H P engine with the Richmond 6 speed and it hooks really good and he has not broken anything yet.He drives the 55 like a maniac most of the time and the tires are holding up very well.
