I agree ! I like 62's better...nicer body style...I had a 62 Corvair Spyder Turbo...it wasn't exactly neck snapping but I think the turbo may have needed a rebuild...V8 may be a little more impressive.

If I remember correctly...they used to use the engines out of these cars as a "step up" in the sand drag and dune racers in the 80's...though I could be wrong... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

-----Geez,,,,you guys have never seen one of these?? I had a super low mileage 63 back about 1980 or so. I seem to remember selling it at auction to a "Happy Days Classic cars" out of Iowa, maybe? It was an automatic or I might have kept it a bit longer as it was mint. Artesian Turquoise/white gut/white top. No powerhouse though! Had an injection system to quell the knock. Injected some stuff everyone called "Moose Milk" when needed. In the pics of this one you can see the remains of a Moose Milk label. Looked very CQQL under the hood..........Bill S

-------Went back to the add and the Moose Milk might have been some form of alcohol, but it had a milky cast to it, hence the nick-name. Must have had some other additives as well. Oh, and this one seems a bit crusty under the hood. They were very Chryslerish under the hood. Body color all the way down the inner fenders and firewall. Made for a nice engine compartment when detailed.

215
The Oldsmobile/Buick 215 V8 was a small 215 in³ aluminum engine for midsize cars of the 1960s. It was introduced in the 1961 Buick Special, Oldsmobile Cutlass F-85 (where it was called the Rockette), and Pontiac Tempest and retired by General Motors just three years later due to high production costs.

The tooling was sold to Britain's Rover Group, and this Rover V8 engine saw widespread use by many manufacturers. This engine was the basis for a 198 in³ V6 which, after being sold to and bought back from Jeep in the 1970s, became the current GM 3800 engine.

An 8.75:1 compression version produced just 155 hp and 210 ft.lbf, while a 10.25:1 model produced 185 hp and 230 ft.lbf.

Applications:

1961-1963 Buick Special
1961-1963 Oldsmobile F-85
1961-1963 Pontiac Tempest
[edit]
Turbo Jetfire
For 1962 and 1963, a turbocharged version produced 215 hp and 300 ft.lbf. This was the first turbo car ever offered for sale.

Re: Olds Aluminum injected turbo

Moparts,

-------Ill go along with most of what is stated, but the Tempest, at least in 63 came with 326 pure Pontiac cubic inches in V8 form. Pontiacs drivelines from 61 thru 63 were completely different with the rear mount trans and the "rope" driveshaft. Pontiac also had its own 4 cylinder which was half a pontiac V8. Buick and Olds had the more normal layout with trans mounted to the engine...........Bill S

Almost had the chance to work on one of the 1/2 v-8's. Had it in my shop and was just starting to tear it down and the owner decided not to restore the car. It sure was a different looking setup.
