Got an Idea here...How about we get 10 or so members of this site (Yenko.Net) and pick this car up. We each flip 5 grand or so and get it restored. Maybe get a magazine involved and document it. Then bring it to the SCR shows. We could also do others like it. Be pretty cool if we could save some nice cars, wouldnt cost that much per person and we would eventually create a known collection worth a few bucks..Anyone interested in this? I would be in...

Close to me (about 1.5hrs) Saw this early today and already set up a meeting with this gentelman for tomarrow am, if I don't work anything out with him, I'll be happy to share my thoughts as well as any pics with you guys.

There is a long story on this car. A close friend of mine (Camaro Connection) out of Ocean Springs has been trying to track this car down for years!

The old owner, actually GAVE it to the previous owner when he bought a house from him and this car was in the backyard.

It was known for years around the MS area. It has the flat hood and is a real RS Z-28. Several people have been searching for this car and the 68 Z-28 w/ Plenum air induction from Cali that was relocated to MS. We found the 68, but could not make a deal with the owner. That car is now being brokered out of Florida.


I will find out more about the engine condition tomarrow.

Sold!!!
The drivetrain is all original and # match. Still has the am radio in the dash, and it is not all cut up. Console is in good shape, albet with some funky 70's wood sticker on the console door. Correct Shifter is there, minus the ball. Exhaust manifolds are missing.
The air cleaner is in the trunk as well as the original carb. Flat hood car.
The subframe and frame rails, in fact the whole underside of the car is in much better shape than the ouitside (which as you can see is pretty rusty). What probably saved the underside is that the car has been on blocks above the ground for >25 years! All of the gas lines and brake lines are in good shape.
All of the rods are out of the right side of the engine. The oil looks ok, and there is not any metal in the oil pan. The engine turns freely by hand. This is my biggest concern, but looking good so far. I will know more once I get it home and pull the engine.

The car was originally code 76 yellow, with 711 black interior. So, it is a hot color combo. All of the RS stuff is there and intact (headlight washers, RS wiper motor) and the grill is in great shape. Of course, the hoses need replacing. Shows 37,000 miles and looks to be original (no wear on the pedals, interior etc) Gauges are in place and in good viewable shape (of course, don't know if they work or not).

Lots of rust in the rear body panels, especially the drivers side between the trunk lid and the quarter.

I am supposed to be able to talk to the original owner and am going to get some verification on the miles and exactly what went wrong with the engine when it was parked.

I will shoot some pics on Sunday when I get her home.

What does that mean??? Is there a big hole in the side of the block or was the engine 1/2 way disassembled?

No, the push rods. The right valve cover was loose and only had two bolts holding it on. It looks like they tried to "rebuild" the carb (it is in pieces in the trunk) and maybe that did not work so they pulled the valve cover and the rods? Who knows after so many years? The engine could be toast, or it could be fine.
The outside of the block looks to be intact, but won't know until we get it pulled apart.

Thanks, but I am not giving up on the hugger orange X66D80 camaro! I found a 69 dated CE 396 replacement block still in the crate, never opened, that was bought in 1970 and never used. That is going to be my personal car.

This is just an investment car that I am going to flip or restore then sell. I really do not like that yellow, but some guys are ape over it. Being a real RS-Z, it is worth it.
