Speed & Supercar - October 1968
The whole article & cover are now in the gallery. Before, I had uploaded an article from a different magazine, but still about the same car.
Cover Page 39 ... 43 are up there. Does anybody know what size tires, front & back, are on that car? The article says "super wide L-series Inglewood Indy-style street tires." |
Re: Speed & Supercar - October 1968
Should be Inglewood Pos-A-Traction --L70-15--In the rear ---J70-14--front------------

Re: Speed & Supercar - October 1968
Are you sure about the rear? 70 isn't a very wide tire...
|
Re: Speed & Supercar - October 1968
9" rear tire on a 8" rim------That was a gigonda street tire for back then------------
|
Re: Speed & Supercar - October 1968
So Joe, I suspect finding a NOS set of those Inglewood Indy tires would be more difficult than those Mallory 7mm wires? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif What in fact would be the most "correct" replacement tire for those?

Re: Speed & Supercar - October 1968
I had the Ingelwoods down on my order form, but they were too wide for the '69 Chevelle without drastically pumping up the air bags so the tires would clear, which would destroy traction or do body work, which was done later by Gary---I went for the Prowler Eliminator tire(tall tire) with a red stripe--What's on the car now is ,M/T use to make a tire with a red stripe , that's as close as I could get to a Prowler Eliminator-----

Re: Speed & Supercar - October 1968
My 70 came with MT rears and they would/could not hold it straight when I got on it. Some guy in a GTO came up b-side me leaving a drive-in one night and wanted to try me on.
I almost took his Right side off when I hit the next gear as I went by him like he was tied to a tree. I think one of them is still in the back of the shop. I will give it a look and see what size it was. I am thinking it was a M-50x15. You young guys just have no idea what bias ply tires were like back then. They would not hook up on a car like a radial will now. Remember Joe? Pantera |
Re: Speed & Supercar - October 1968
I found another article on this car... you won't believe this, it is in a magazine that my Dad bought for me in 1982. It says...
[ QUOTE ] The car rolls on Inglewood Pos A Traction Red Line tires which aren't even made anymore. Fronts are G70-14, while the rears are L70-15s. [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: Speed & Supercar - October 1968
It has to be the same car, almost every detail is exact, down to the license plate still being there in '82... but one detail that I see that is different is that there is absolutely no mention of the mid-year Corvette side pipes.
