comfort grip (sport wheel) steering wheel for 70

Need a little help here, I need to know if the comfort grip/sport wheel mounting hub (hockey puck that sits on top of the steering column) has a notch in it to mount a correct for 70 sport steering wheel, or if the correct mounting hub mounting flange is flush. I have what I beleive is the correct 3 spoke sport wheel, that has one spoke lower than the other 2 ( tough to explain) Wondering what is correct here. Thanks in advance SULLY

The correct one has a notch...as do all 69/70 Chevrolet 3 spoke wheels including the walnut, rosewood, and comfortgrip. The one without a notch is for either an oldsmobile 4 spoke wheel, or a 63-65 Corvette wheel with 1 piece spokes. You can't use the flush type hub (non-notched) with the comfortgrip wheel because it won't sit flush due to the lower spoke being separate from the horizontal spokes... Blame Ralph Nader for that one... after 65 it was required so that the wheel could "break away" during a severe crash. Oh, the correct part # you need is 3937896. I may have an extra around here if you don't have the right one. -JB

Joe,
What is needed to bolt on of those "comfort grip" three spoke Corvette style steering wheels to the Nova steering column like your Deuce has? By that, I mean other parts besides the actual wheel. I saw your car at the SCR7 last year. Thank you.

Well, you need the mounting hub, the horn contact kit, which is a circular steel piece held on with 3 screws, which activates the horn as well as holds on the horncap, a spring and plunger to operate the horn, and of course the horn cap itself. Pretty simple installation.

Thank you. Do those also hook up exactly the same to a TILT column?

The notched version is correct, and the entire assembly will bolt right up to the standard Nova column - I actually helped install the one on Joe's Deuce https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Yes, the tilt column install is exactly the same, the steering wheel won't know its going on a tilt column if you don't tell it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Allen, I think Lutty's Chevy parts sells a complete kit to mount a comfort grip wheel, everything but the wheel and hub. SULLY
