Triple Green or Triple Black LS5
Knowing that I'd probably get some very straight forward opinions on this subject I thought I'd throw it out for discussion. I've just purchased a super nice rust free numbers matching 1970 Chevelle LS5. M22 4sp, bench seat , A/C . The car is about 1/3 of the way through a rotisserie restoration. I've always had a real problem painting a car a different color than what is on the cowl tag, However. this car came from the factory in TRIPLE GREEN ...795 45 B...ouch. Given my resent experience with green Chevelles and my personal dislike for green interior and green vinyl tops I have a real problem restoring this car triple green. So, my question is simple triple green or triple black. I know what my personal preference is but being a small collector that rotates his collection on a regular basis (until I find that dream car) I have to be concerned about the neg. impact on the cars value by changing the trim combination vs. the neg. impact on the cars value because it's triple green. I know some will say that a true enthusiast should not concern him or her self with the value of their car but I personal don't subscribe to that opinion. These car cost to much to purchase and to much to restore to make a decision that has a major neg. impact on it's value. So, triple green or triple black is the 64 dollar question.https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Triple Green or Triple Black LS5
IF you plan on keeping this car forever, paint it black.
However, "being a small collector that rotates his collection" indicates you won't likely have it long term. If you know you will likely sell it someday, keep it original color. Luckily my 69 Z is black with black interior. I would be having the same struggle as you if it were any color of green, although the very dark fathom green has grown on me over the years. Or, just do like so many guys nowadays, and replace the trim tag with a "reproduction" tag. Of course, I am NOT serious. I wish it were illegal to make fake tags. Lynn |

I second that...

Re: Triple Green or Triple Black LS5
I'd stay with the green as well...you'll be better off when you eventually sell.

Re: Triple Green or Triple Black LS5
If a car is done well it will transcend the tri-green scheme. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif The more I see these green cars (remember this was a very popular color back then) the more they grow on me too.
Good luck, |
Re: Triple Green or Triple Black LS5
Black on black...no vinyl top. I would have no problem buying your car like that. If it's triple green, I'm not even gonna look at it. And you know first-hand from your last experience that's just the way it is. I can't imagine spending the time and money to restore a car that I didn't like the color. With the exception of the mega-dollar cars, I'll take a color change if done correctly any day. And so will the type of buyer looking in the price range of LS5's today. I'll be the first to admit, I am probably one of the exceptions on this, especially on a forum such as this that caters to originality.

Re: Triple Green or Triple Black LS5
If you're looking for a quick resale,go with Triple Black.
If you will keep it long term,go with it's original green scheme. It will take you longer to sell it in this color anyway. |
Re: Triple Green or Triple Black LS5
Black/black/black... the triple green is not an attractive combination and if you do intend to sell it down the road the black will appeal to more buyers.
If I may ask.. are the guys calling for triple green saying so because they like the color combination and would buy a car with those colors? Or is it because that is how it came from the factory and come hell or high water it should stay the same way no matter if it is attractive or not? How about green with a black top and black interior? That is certainly not a bad combination! |
Re: Triple Green or Triple Black LS5
I say leave it green. It is what it is! That is how it was ordered. Get a street rod if you want to change colors! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif
