1970 COPO Z28?

I am looking at a 1970 Z28 with the tall rear spoiler. What is the best way to verify that the car is a true COPO car and are the COPO Z's any more valuable than the standard Z?

What is the build date on the car?

Haven't seen the car in person yet; where would I find that information?

I think you can tell by the info on the trim tag; right? The code on this particular car is 04A.

Good that you asked. 04A is too early for 70 COPO 9796.

Keep looking!!

The best way to tell if it's a true COPO 9796 is if you can get the build sheet. If this isn't possible (b/c not all cars came w/ build sheets) you need to check the mounting holes to the rear spoiler to see if its perfectly punched out, (anyone w/ a drill can install a spoiler). Also, I would speak with the original owner, if possible, find out if they special ordered the spoiler. Learn as much as you can because there are many that have different opinions on the exact dates. As for value the car is worth as much as the buyer is willing to pay .

Re: 1970 COPO Z28?

You are right! GM drilled the holes to a specification assigned by a print. There was an early print and a later print. The tooling was also revised so the part numbers for the spoiler will show revision # on them.

The best documentation is the original owner https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

I dont believe that tall spoiler cars are worth more. Everyone that I know likes the short spoiler cars better anyway.

Ouch.... That Hurt.. You should know last year I turned down 6 figures for mine so I guess you could be wrong for at least one car- unless other 70 standard D-80 cars are getting real offers over $100K these days....

You got an opinion I guess, but I can tell you for fact I would not intrude into a thread on GTO's - Just to add profound negitivity to the thread. That is my opinion, and like you I am entitled to it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
