regulator
---Got an original regulator today dated 2E. Cant believe I cant remember how to figure the date. Is it 1962 or 1972??? The rest of the #s are 1119 and 515, but I believe those are on alot of these. Theres a good chance this came of a low mileage Corvette. Whats the consensus???.......Bill S

Re: regulator
It should be May 72. In 62 the cars had generators so a different type of regulator was used.

Re: regulator
Wasn't mid '72 when the balance of GM cars got the internal regulators...and earlier on the Vettes, 1969 maybe?https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif.
Maybe you're talking Window Regulators?https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif. ~ Pete https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: regulator
-----So,,,knowing that GM vehicles used internal regulators in 1972 would this regulator be over the counter or what???.......Bill S

Re: regulator
It is part of the Delcotron alternators internals, not something you would buy aftermarket.
You can however buy all the internal stuff from different supplieres. |
Re: regulator
------Im sorry, Mike. I stated that badly even if you read the first post. I have a 1972 dated regulator just like the one that would come on a 1969 Camaro. Im asking wether this could have come on any 1972 GM vehicle or if it would have to be over the counter???......Bill S

Re: regulator

The 10-SI internally regulated alternator didn't start until the 1973 model year, and on the Camaro, intermittantly throughout the year. This could be either an over the counter replacement, or one from a 1972 model.

Re: regulator
------Ed,,,I do know that internal regulators first appeared in 1970 or so as my 1970 LT1 Corvette was so equipped. Matter of fact, it was the first thing I took the car in for warrantee about. You are saying, though, that regulators as I described in my first post were still installed on some GM cars in 1972, correct??? I would like to trade this regulator, which appears almost NOS, for a March or April 69 with a bit of cash if necessary........Bill S

Re: regulator

Bill,
I'm not sure exactly when the SI started, but Colvin's book shows it starting in 73 (with the exception noted in my last post). My October 1972 P&A 30B (Corvette parts and Accessories Catalog) shows the externally regulated alternator was used up through the 1972 model year. The Corvette guys can verify this (or correct this) since the P&A has been known to have errors. Ed |
Re: regulator
My 70 Chevy factory service manual shows both alternators ,internal and external regulators being used .I went to the G M tech center in 71 to learn the diagnostic and rebuild on the new alternator.
