1970 chevelle & el camino's

Does any one have any idea how many hugger orange 1970 Chevelle's and El Camino's were made ?Just curious, there's a 70 Chevelle in town that I always wondered how rare it was? Thx

Noone can say for sure, not even Chevrolet or Fisher Body knows.
Paperwork is key on this color, also known as Monaco Orange on Chevelles/Elcos as the cowl could show - - and that could stand for a few select colors too.
There's a few on Team Chevelle withem, and that also includes Non Super Sports as well.

If it was built at Van Nuys it most ikely would have the actual Dupont paint code in place of the - - on the cowl tag. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

What was the orange on the 69 GTO Judge called and is it the same as the Monaco orange special order paint on the 70 Chevelles?

Cool subject...

Are there known genuine special paint tags showing some Dupont numbers used in place of standard colors or the '--' examples someone can show or PM me?.

I'm not specific to any plant or car line and a pic isn't necessary either...more interested in real examples of Dupont or other numbers known used on tags in special paint situations by Fisher Body plants during the glory years..

Just a break in the action...back to the pond hockey and sno-machines w/ the kids!.

The "Orange" color for 69 Judge's was Carousel Red, don't think it is the same shade as Monaco Orange. Another Pontiac color I always thought was strange was Orbit Orange, which is actually a Yellow color. I think it is a 1970 color though.

There is an LS6 Chevelle that I owned for about one week two years ago and on the build sheet written by hand has Solid 926-99539 Red A.L- White D88 Stripes. on the trim tag it has -- for paint code. Is the 926-99539 the paint code? If it is can anyone look up what they call that color?

Carousel Red and Hugger Orange/Monaco Orange are the same.

Orbit Orange from 1970 is another color. Carousel Red was only available on the Firebird in 1970.

There also are no records of how many Chevys were built with this color, but for 1970 it's rare for the Chevelle as it was a special-order color and not RPO, I believe.

Yea , that's what I've noticed before was that the cowl tags typically had the -- or a long 8 digit number there as well. I agree and would think too that it would be a very small percentage of cars with that paint as it was a special order paint for 1970 , I think a Camaro code isn't it?

For some reason I've never liked Monoco Orange on a 70 Chevelle, I love it on a 69 but it just doesn't look right on a 70(to me). Might be due to the white stripes??? Sorry if I've offended anyone with a 70 Chevelle that's Monoco Orange. I've only seen a couple as they are rare.
