Chassis preservation

My 64 Belair with 8700 miles on it was sitting in a garage since 1968. The underneath has a fine coat uf rust everywhere. The factory undercoating areas have turned kind of brown. I want to preserve it under there without painting or stripping or anything. Everything is original including spring tags and spirals but I dont want to restore anything. What has anyone done in a situation like this ? BoShield ? What does this stuff look and feel like when applied ?

It sounds like the petroleum distalite in the undercoating releasing and drying out.
Try spraying it with ArmourAll Tire Cleaner FOAM or a similar product and let it sit there, don't wipe it away.I find the foam cleaners to be the best.
It should rejuvinate it and give it some luster back.

To remove rust from those metal areas, use WD-40.
Let it soak in briefly then wipe it away.
Repeat if necessary.

I've used a product called Rusteco Gel for about eight years and it works very well. It takes some rubbing (ScotchBrite pad, stiff brush, etc.), but it won't harm paint and leaves a protective coating on the metal. Here's the info website: http://www.rusteco.com/details.htm

Boeshield leaves an almost unnoticable parrafin like coating. I've used the aerosol can application on the underside of my Chevelle and it holds up great. I was a little concerned about it attracting dust but that really doesn't seem to be a problem. I like it.

Bob:
I wouldn't put anything on the surface rust. Whatever you do will change the color. If it is now in a dry environment, the corrosion there IS a protective layer and it won't really advance or change. You know what free advice is worth.....
