ARMALITE Glass????
Has anyone encountered original glass in a Chevy that's labelled ARMALITE? A '62 popped up recently that has every piece of glass in it labelled that way. I've only ever seen PPG or LOF.

Re: ARMALITE Glass????
Isn't that a brand type of armored glass?.
How's the thickness compare to stock stuff and is there any additional door/floor plating in the car?. ~ Pete https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |
Re: ARMALITE Glass????
I don't have access to the car Pete. Funny you should mention that. The only thing that comes up with a net search is a munitions company.
I'll have to ask the person who found it to take a closer look. Verne |

Re: ARMALITE Glass????
Chris, This is really wierd! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif I made a search too, and didn't come up with what you did. I've already reached out to the guy who contacted me to try to find out more about this car. It's a '62 Belair Sport Coupe (commonly known as a "bubbletop" <I HATE that word>). It was built at Baltimore mid production. Now......who the heck would have taken a car like that and have bullet-proof glass installed?
Hey, wait a minute, I seen to recall a story about Strickler taking his '62 to a match race down south, (big motor and the aluminum front clip) and considering the Ford-Mopar crowd down there that was mostly drunk and exicted, and he was up against their local favorite, when they won the race, he just kept driving the car off the end of the track, through a line of trees and onto the main road where the crew was waiting with the tow bar and they left while they still had the skin on their backs. True story told to me from one of his old crew who I spent hours with a few years ago at York.......You never know...... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif God, I loved that story!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif Verne |
Re: ARMALITE Glass????
is it a real 409 car Vern??
I was serious about it being a old goverment car. |
Re: ARMALITE Glass????
Bud,
I don't know yet if it was a 409 car or not. All signs indicate it was originally a 3-spd car. I've logged a few government cars, F&SO or COPO, etc. and none of them were sport models. All sedans. I did find out that the body has been gutted and media blasted, and it got a real good look-over. Nothing abnormal was found. The Armalite glass appears to be a "standard" configuration. I do recall seeing a couple replacement windshields or back glasses that were the Armalite brand. My best guess at this point is that perhaps the car suffered vandalism at some time and all the glass was broken out, then replaced by the insurance co. Verne |
