Chrome for Vintage Cragars???
Anybody know a Chrome Shop that will re-plate Cragar Wheels? I need a set of 15x4 and 15x8 wheels re-done for a project I'm working on.

Kid I think Stockton wheel will do it...but I think its awful expensive.

Re: Chrome for Vintage Cragars???
Getting most anything rechromed has gotten "awful"expensive. EPA regulations on the chemicals used, and the process are a killer.

Re: Chrome for Vintage Cragars???
Stockton is $195 per and it will take "a while" according to them.

Re: Chrome for Vintage Cragars???
Jeff, Have you had Stockton do any Cragars?
$195 seems reasonable. My Chrome guy didn't want to do my Cragars. They are in good shape but have minor defects from age. |
Re: Chrome for Vintage Cragars???
$195 seems very reasonable........BUT...I doubt you will get the "old school" look that the Cragers once had.Ever notice the tint on the new chrome mags? The "old" Cragers had more of a yellowish/blue tint not the bright white chrome found today...I believe the old process used a different Hexavalent Chrome which I don't believe is legal to use today..I'm nit pickin here...Just don't want anybody to be unhappy after gettin them back... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

Re: Chrome for Vintage Cragars???
dont the new Cragars from Summit work??? next set I get will come from them, after my last go with original 15x4's online, chaaaching..there crazy money now...
I went online and looked over Summit's wheels and they looked fine and priced fair...are the lips or offsets not right??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: Chrome for Vintage Cragars???
The big difference is the unilug holes and the new design of the S/S cap...And of course the "white" plating...I don't believe they offer them in all the sizes that they did back in the day as well..They work and look very nice but are not a true day two wheel if that is what you are looking for...Most people will never notice the differences...
