Not one foreign car, not even a VW bug. Those were the days!
Glenn, please tell us you took photos of car dealerships too. |
Re: DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY 1962
It would be neat to see pictures of those very same streets today as a comparison. Nice pictures. You are right, it was a much simpler time.

Re: DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY 1962
I work across the street from DIS, I have driven by it everyday for the last 24 years on my way to and from work. The street the speedway is on is now 6 lanes across...
International Speedway Corp. (owned by the France family) bought the property across from the speedway to develop it into a huge shopping/movie/entertainment complex. The Main street pier looks the same today...the boardwalk is being leveled for condo development. For grins, I'll try and get pics of those streets this weekend for comparison. Mike |

Glenn, please tell us you took photos of car dealerships too. [/ QUOTE ] - Bill I wish. I don't know why but it never occurred to me back then to do that. I guess it seemed like they would always be there. All the times we stopped by Baldwin Chevrolet to see what was new on the floor I could have filled a book. We would stop by Baldwin at least every other week, but the place we stopped every couple of days was "Z Motors" . "Z Motors" was in Valley Stream near the city line. It was a block long with the office/showroom in the middle. All the cars on the east side of the office were just used cars. But all the cars on the west side were muscle cars. Very few were stock, they were all day 2 cars. An assortment like you couldn't believe. The amount of cars they sold was amazing! A lot of them were beat to piss and just fixed enough to sell to a young kid who didn't know better. But to a knowledgeable shopper there were deals to be made. And forget the back row - old drag race cars and street racers they felt were to far gone to try and fix and sell. These would go "as is" cheap - cheap. Got a couple of cool cars and spent many nights taking "test rides" - I would love to see some shots from there! Glenn - |
