1970 SS 396 Nova outside trim question

Can anybody tell me how many different outside trim options were available for the 1970 SS 396 Nova? My car has the trim around the windows would that include trim around the rain gutters and the two strips along the bottom of the car? I am confused because I do not see any signs of molding being on the lower part or along the middle of the car before. Was it possible to order a SS 396 Nova with no outside trim in 1970? I remember seeing a picture of a black 70 SS 396 Nova with only the fender and hood gills and no other outside trim. Are there any books out there that have all this information? Any input would appreciated.

You could get the following trim on a 70 SS Nova;
1. no ext trim except ss badging front and rear, fender louvers and hood grilles
2. bright alum trim around windows front and rear with either 6 piece body side mldg (inch wide) or 6/8 piece lower body moulding (3 inches wide). You may have been able to get just the window mldgs with no body side or lower not sure.
3. Vinyl top- you recieved thin chrome rain gutter mldg.
4. I think painted pin stripes were available as well

Another question please, do all the big block core supports have 23 inch openings? Is the measurement taken where it flares out at the top of the opening or accross the middle. Thanks for your response.

Mark i have a customers car here that has absolutely zero trim. even the moldings around the windows where you have bright trim this is painted body color. Here is a car that is identical as well with no bright trim around the windows http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet...1QQcmdZViewItem

My 70 SS has bright trim only on the front and rear windows, no lower mouldings, so that combination was possible.

That car that King linked/posted has vinyl top trim but no vinyl top, either they didn't replace the top when they restored it or they added the trim, either way as it appears now it is not correct. Look on your trim tag there may be a stamped code for exterior trim A A1 A2 usually indicates exterior decor groups

Sully, you can actually have A 3....the silver car has brite window trim, drip edge chrome and rocker trim....there were 2 types of drip rail trim...one for vinyl and no vinyl....I think the coolest is no trim at all...plain sleeper look, no engine decals, just noise..!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

The trim tag has A-2 on the bottom line. What combination of outside trim would this be?

I think Marlin knows all the 'A" codes, I guess A 3 could be top/gutter, window and body side as well.? C'mon WIlma we need to know.

Typically the A 2 would designate 2 exterior trim items...most common would be brite window trim with b/s moldings or the rocker trim...I'm pretty sure you couldn't get the b/s and the rocker trim together. Also rocker moldings got a black paint accent on the light colored cars..yellow, silver, white, lt blue, etc. You can usually tell which moldings were original to the car..
