Valspar Solvent
I found a can of Valspar while cleaning out a garage. I know its used to thin oil based paints and in the old days, as a degreaser. My questions are:
1. Is it toxic to the skin? 2. Are the fumes safe to breathe? 3. Does it evaporate quickly? Thanks for knowledgeable replys Gents. |
Re: Valspar Solvent
The only Valspar I've used was a wood finish.

Re: Valspar Solvent
Valspar is popular for marine applications, and like any varnish, should not make skin contact, and good venting is a must.

Re: Valspar Solvent
I would treat all solvents as harmful to the skin. At the very least, get some green Solvex type gloves. As far ventalation, I would rate that high on my list! I deal with solvents everyday and I would strongly recommend that you treat it with respect.
As for everyone else using solvents and degreasers, treat them with respect. What it can do to your liver and kidneys is still the biggest hazard that you can't see. And just because it might be an environmentally friendly solvent, doesn't mean it will be nice to you. Sorry for the PSA, but I have seen what can happen long term when you are stupid with solvents. |
