1968 L78 Alternator?

My L78 car is missing its original alternator. Can the experts chime in and tell me the proper part number for a Feb '68 built L78 Camaro? Also...if anybody has one for sale https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif

Thanks,
Colin

Believe all high winding solid lifter engines would use the same alternator for a given year, i.e. '69 it was the "837".

Sam is correct....Colvin's book doesn't even list the L78 application for 1968 Camaro or Chevelle...but the 814 is the correct part number....an August dated unit might be a little early for a Feb car...but I had an original 837 with a June 69 date on a Feb/70 L78 car....these were made in batches so there won't be a lot of different dates to choose from. Maybe someone else who has a 68 hipo car can give you some guidelines on dates they have. Our 68 L78 Nova is a July car with a May dated 814.

Colin:
The guys are right. It needs an 1100814. Most of the dates are pretty "tight" on that car, but the orig carb is July 67 (date just visible in orig owner photo when new - carb is still there!) Ideally, Jan 68 would be nice, but Nov, Dec or early Feb could have been on there. It's kind of a tough one.

Re: 1968 L78 Alternator?

what date in 1967 would GM have used on a 814 for a L78 Camaro built the 3rd week of Jan 1968. Or would they have used a 1967 alternator for a L78??

Re: 1968 L78 Alternator?

A Jan/68 L78 Camaro would most likely have parts with 1967 dates on them....but they would be 1968 model year parts. Remember, the new model year usually starts in August of the calendar year before the model year.
