Zinc & solid Lifters
Is there any opinion on the effects of non zinc oil on high performance cam wear. I have read that modern motor oils do not offer protection for solid lifter/cam.
Does or has anyone used "Oil Extreme Concentrate" in their motor???? I have read that this product offers the same wear protection as zinc. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: Zinc & solid Lifters
My engine builder tells me that I need to run zinc oil like Rotella T in all our engines or I will suffer premature wear.

Re: Zinc & solid Lifters
I use Valvoline VR-1 oil in my 68 solid lifter Z28. It is very high in zinc

Re: Zinc & solid Lifters
Everyone around here uses VR-1 too.It really is the most economical and best solution I think.

Re: Zinc & solid Lifters
What is "Brad Penn" oil??? Have a chance to get a few cases locally. I understand it has a high zinc content, but I have never heard of it.
Thank you in advance. ktownkid |
Re: Zinc & solid Lifters
Brad Penn is Pa. based and comes from the old Bradford, Pa. wells. Same composition as Kendall GT-1 of old. Go to Yahoo search and type in Brad Penn. I use it and also Rotella-T. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif P.S. I think we discussed this in length not to long ago. In technical and Resto under motor oil.

[/ QUOTE ] Not everyone Rick....I use Rotella and I had the foresight to stock up on the old Rotella with the API rating of CI-4. The new Rotella has a new API rating of CJ-4 which I understand has a lower level of zinc but still has more zinc than conventional moror oil. When my supply of Rotella runs dry(which should take several years) I too will probably switch to the Valvoline VR1. |
Re: Zinc & solid Lifters
What weight is applicable in the Valvoline VR-1 for a solid lifter BB.? Thx
