Re: OH MY GOD!!!
I think that plane slid off / through the runway @ Midway in Chicago a couple years back.

Actually, I'm sure that was the plane that went through the end of the runway barrier at Burbank (now Bob Hope) airport. That's a Southwest jet. They have since removed the gas station for obvious reasons.

It was definitely in SoCal...I remember it on the news when I lived there! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: OH MY GOD!!!
Yep, Burbank runway 08, landed too far down on a wet runway and skidded through the fence, across the boulevard and into the Chevron station. I think there are still gouges in the boulevard pavement. They were high on their descent priofile all the way down and the copilot suggested a go-around but the captain, eager to remain on or ahead of schedule, pressed on with the landing more than half-way down the short Burbank runway and you can see the result. Similar on-time pressure contributed to the Chicago-Midway long landing/fence-boulevard transgression.
I still can't believe that I was shocked back then when gas was running $1.75 a gallon... I priced race gas (leaded 110) yesterday at $10/gal. |
