Should I Buy???

A good friend of mine is selling his 69 Chevelle, which currently has a 1967 396 motor which we built together back in 1998.

Although there is no actual proof, we know with 99% certainty that this is a COPO car. It has the KQ rear end, and we spoke with the guy who owned it from 1970-1986... and the first words from his mouth were "did you know this was a 427 car?". He claimed to have bought it from an insurance company back then.

The car is solid, has under 30,000 miles, and runs great. How much do you think is a fair price? I know deep down that its a COPO, but also know that without proof, it doesn't mean much.

Thanks,
Bob

p.s. Assuming this makes it into my garage tomorrow, I'll be posting many more questions and pics about this presumed COPO.

Im sure you already have a fair price worked out if its making it to your garage tomorrow.... Sounds to me your already thinking of selling it otherwise it should not matter Good luck to you https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Should I Buy???

Without docs or orig drivetrain, I would pay 1969-Chevelle-street-machine money and resist the temptation to pay COPO money. If you're buying to resell, the paint job may not be everyone's bag, either (I reviewed pics in your old posts). Looks like a great car; I'd be all over it for the right $.

You're right, price is already agreed upon. I guess I was second guessing my decision to buy... I'm in no way looking to resell.

What kind of paint job does it have?

Any pics?

Is there any way to substantiate the COPO authenticity?

Re: Should I Buy???

Scuncio looked back at my old posts and found a pic of it, along with a few details from the trim tag, etc.

We know the guy who owned it back in the 70's, the one who bought it from the insurance company without motor or trans (it was a recovered stolen car).

This guy claims to have a shoebox full of stuff... pics/etc... but we've been unable so far to actually get it from him. I'm trying to figure out how to best coax this info from him... I'm assuming its gonna involve a little $$$. And, who knows what he actually has, if anything. But he did say he'd buy it back anytime, any price. So it makes me wonder.

Bottom line, since the motor is long gone, even with some documentation, I doubt I'd restore it back to COPO status.

I think period paint is cool, no matter how weird. the current trend is retro and nobody is painting anything with this look.
