I also cut a slot in a piece of wood big enough for the wire harness to slide through so the socket sits on top of the wood. Then I used two pieces of metal strips and "C" clamps to hold the housing...

You have to use a thin long flat tip screw driver...

You have to use a thin long flat tip screw driver and pry up on the edge. Once you get enough of the socket up you can use small pliers to bend up all the way so the socket fits through the housing.
