I agree - at the St. Louis Corvette plant, their was a polishing station on the assembly line that all cars went through. No wet sanding except on the repair line as needed.

All big blocks were cast on molding line 1 at Tonawanda. All small blocks were cast on line 2. The "conv" and "HiPo" wording on the housing cores had no significance by the late 60s.

I just removed an original from the 12 bolt in the 69 Camaro that I am restoring. The original tags are different in size and location of the lettering than the re-pops. never noticed that before.
