Don and I had a conversation yesterday regarding 69 throttle cables. I may not have relayed what I know correctly. I meant the entire sleeve that Don has "X"d in his photo would have the color. I snapped a few photos tonight to clarify this. I don't think a lot of original cables survived and all the new ones have black sleeves. I am not aware of 69s having any other stickers or codes on the cables.
The build sheets that I have copies of for 69 Chevelles are either blank, have a 7, or a color code as Don has noted. Not very standard, even for the same plants.
Here goes:
This is the one off my Malibu with L48, box 102 says ORG. That is the color of the sleeve of my original. The inner thin cable sleeve was broken, so I replaced it but kept the old one for reference.
Box102: ORG
The only markings visible on the original L48 cable:
This is the one off my L35 survivor car. It looks brown, but other L35 build sheets say purple. Too many years and the heat from where these cables live probably washed out the color. I don't have a build sheet for this car.
This is the one from a survivor L78 set up, too many years on this one too:
When I was fixing up my COPO Chevelle, the original cable, which I cannot find at the moment had a purplish color. I replaced the cable because of another broken inner sleeve, but I tried to duplicate the color on a new GM cable. FWIW. Yes, it is the wrong throttle cable bracket, but the correct one is on the shelf for the winter project list.
The old parts book has notes for the color of the cable (main outer sleeve):
